Rice, Jr., assignor to Rice Gas Engine Com- rany of Bordentown, New Jersey, a cor- poration organized and existing under the laws of the State of New Jersey, and patent certificate No. 1,429,254 issued therefor, has this date been registered in the Office of the Government Secre- tary of the Virgin Islands of the United States at St. Thomas, in accordance with the provisions in the regulations govern- ing the registration of Patents and Trade-marks in the Virgin Islands, ap- proved 30 June 1920. Si.:— The Colonial Council is advised that pursuant to§pections 17 and 35 of the Colonial Law, as amended by the Ac/ of the Corgress of the United Statfs approved March 3, 1917, general elfe- tins to fill dvacancies in the Colonfal vouncil were held 11 and 12 May, 192 and the Government has ‘been officially a lvised that the results of the election were as follows: 1. For Christiansted’s Town: ‘ D. C. Canegata 2nd Member, For Christiansted’s Country District: Holger Jessen Ist Membey, Halvor Berg 2nd Member. 2. For Frederiksted’s Town: D. Hamllton Jackson Ist Member. For Frederiksted’s Country Distriet: G. B. Fieming Ist Member, F. Andersen 4th Member. The Government has been {further ad- vised that ali persons elected have ac- cepled. By virtue of the power conferred by Colonial Law, the Governor has appoint- ed Messrs. I, Coulter, . 3. Armstrong ST L) AV and A. R. McJrtosh as First, Third and Fifth Appointed Members, respectively, of the Colonial Council, for the elective period, in accordance with sections 17 and 35 of the Colonial Law, “ud appoint- ments to reckon from 10 May, 1923. Pursuant to Section 36 of the Colonial Law, an extraordinary meeting of the Coionial Council for the Municipality of St. Croix is hereby convened for Munday, 4 June, 1922, vwith the Order o: the Day as follows: 1. Examination of Patents of elections. 2. Eleetion of Council’s Officials. 3. Electian of members to the Munici- pal Committee and the several Com- missions. 4. All the elected and appcinted members were present (except Member Fleming) and had handad in their patents of elec- tion and appointments, The Council veparated into two divisions and each vision elected its speaker in conformity th Paragraph 2 of the Rules of Busi- _»B. The one division elected 2ad Ap- pointed Member (Noll) and the other 3rd Member for Frederiksted Country Distriet (M. M. ' vote in the Council. The members thereupon took their seats ard two new members, Halvor Berg and D. Hamilton Jackson, signed the oath preseribed ia Paragraph 47 of the Colonial Law. 2nd Member for Christiansted Town (Caneyata) remarked: Mr. Acting Chair- man. Llf [ may be allowed I might state that Member Andersen is down on his patent of election as 2nd Member. He is 4th Member for Frederiksted Country District, not 2nd !Member; and all the appointments should be dated the 14th instead of the 10th of May: for instance, Mr. Coulter was defeated on the 11th day ot May and his appointment is dated the 10th of the said month, consequently Le was appointed before he was de- feated. The date of all the appoint- ments should be the 14:h of May instead of the 10th. The Acting Chairman in reply to the last speaker said, —Government «_nounces that tlie necessary changes will be made. The 4 cting Chairman remarked: Mem- ber Fleming has been reeleeted to the Council but he is not present today. 4th Member for Christiansted ©ountry District (Ramnsay) inquired of the Acting Chairman whether the necessary correc- tions have been made -in the appoint- ments? The Acting Chairman answered yes. 4th Appointed Member (Blackwood) entered the meeting at this stage of the proceediangs. Item 2. ‘ Election of Couneil’s Officials. Election of a Cha'rman. After the voting t ckets for the eleec- tion of a Chairman tad been collected by the Acting Secretary 2nd Appointed Member (Noll) drew the attention of the Chair to the fact that he had deposited two tickets in the ballot box. 2nd Member for Christiansted Town (Canegata) said,—Mr. Chairman that’s tricks. The Council should stand on its dignity. The Acz ing Chairman hzld back the vote for the sole purpose of allowing a member to come in and vote, and another member cailed back the Acting Secretary and put in another voting ticket after he had vofed already. 2nd Appointed Member (Noll): Mr. Chairman. 1 protest against the charge of engaging in any trick practice, I inadvertently put in a second ballot as the result of the interruption in the vot- ing—and if it was for the purpose of ty; "~ ' would not have announced my error to the Chair before tne ballst was counted. I object to the remarks of the Honorable member ecarrying such accusation, The Acting Chairman declared the tickets invalid and a new voting for a Chairman was in order, 16 voting tickets were handed in. Elected was Ist Member for Frederil.- sted Town (Merwin) with 11 votes. The Cha rman Merwin tock the Chair and remarked: Honorable Members, [ thank you for re-electing me Chairman of this Council. 1 appreciate the demon- stration of confidence reposed in me by the majority. I deem it an honor and will endeavor to serve as faithfully as I have in the past. To be continued. PL.OCAL The s s.
