BILL NO. 24-0238 TWENTY-FOURTH LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS OF THE UNITED STATES Regular Session 2002 To honor and commend Winifred Lewis-Garfield for her years of service and contribution to the nursing profession and many other contnbutions to the people of the Virgin Islands to establish the Winifred Lewis-Garfield-Nursing Scholarship Fund and provide an appropnation ---0--- WHEREAS, Winifred “Winnie” Lewis-Garfield, RN, CRNA, a lady who believes in the adage, “to whom much is given, much is expected,” was bom in Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands to Walter A. Lewis, Sr. and Idalia S. Lewis (deceased); and WHEREAS, Winifred grew up with her father, stepmother, Mrs. Juta Guiler Lewis, and siblings Wistaria Krigger, RN, Walter Lewis Jr., Warren Lewis and Wilma Lewis, Esquire; and WHEREAS, she attended Sts. Peter and Pau] High School in St. Thomas, graduating in 1959, and while attending the high school won first prize in the Future Nurses Club Essay Contest entitled “Why Do I want To Be a Nurse”. …
