THE VIRGIN ISLANDS POLICE DEPARTMENT “To Protect and Serve” Office of the Commissioner VIPD RELEASE- 013023-036 For Immediate Media Distribution January 30, 2023 Operation Clean Sweep Yields More Arrests for Gun Possession St. Thomas, USVI – On Friday, January 27, 2023, members of the Special Operations Bureau Operations Clean Sweep Task Force and the Virgin Islands Police Department Intel Unit were conducting surveillance in the area of Bergs Home in and around the vicinity of Hospital Ground. During this time, VIPD received notification of a shot fired in Hospital Ground and an inspection was conducted. During the inspection, officers made contact with Mr. Jah’Quan Nesbitt, who was found in possession of two loaded .40 caliber magazines loaded with live rounds in each. Mr. Jah’Quan Nesbitt, age 20, was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Illegal Ammunition and Possession of Illegal Ammunition in a Government Housing Community; his bail was set at $50,005.00. Unable to post bail, he was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advise of Rights Hearing. …

Maaziah Powell, age 25 On Saturday, January 28, 2023, at approximately 6:10 p.m., Operation Clean Sweep Taskforce Officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Rhymer Highway, in the vicinity of the former O’Henry Laundromat. During the enforcement, officers observed a red SUV with a tinted front license plate cover and an expired registration sticker traveling towards them. A traffic stop was initiated, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and Mr. Maaziah Akimo Powell was found to be in possession of a Glock 17 handgun. Mr. Maaziah Powell, age 25, was placed under arrest for Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm, Possession of Ammunition and Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm within a housand feet from a School, his bail was set at $75,005.00. He was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights Hearing. - Continue - AAF Justice Complex, 5400 Veterans Drive St. Thomas, 00802 * (340) 774-2211 Administrative Services Building 45 Mars Hill, Frederiksted St. Croix, 00840 * (340) 778-2211 www.vipd.vi.gov Shervon Bobb-Duberry, age 37 Also on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 7:46 p.m., traffic enforcement was conducted on Alton Adams Drive, where officers observed a gray Honda Civic with what appeared to be excessive tint on the driver and passenger side windows. Officer initiated a traffic stop where a search was conducted of the vehicle and officers found Mr. Shervon Bobb-Duberry to be in possession of a Springfield XDS 3.3 Model .45 caliber handgun. Mr. Shervon Bobb-Duberry, age 37, was placed under arrest for Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm, Possession of Ammunition and Possession of a Firearm within a thousand feet of a church/school and his bail was set at $50,005.00. Unable to post bail, Mr. Bobb-Duberry was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights Hearing. ###
