Unit 4: Marine Debris (3-4 weeks or 8 hours) Week 1 (2 hours) Day 1: Introduction 9 Trash Time activity (15 minutes) 9 Video (20 minutes) 9 Background lecture (10 minutes) 9 Discuss questions from “Methods” section (15 minutes) 9 Prepare for week 2 beach clean up with permission slips, etc. Day 2: 9 All Tied Up activity (15 minutes) 9 Distribute and discuss copies of clean-up card (15 minutes) 9 Video (20 minutes) 9 Pollution Quotient or prepare for Turtle Mishap (15 minutes) for younger students. Week 2 (2 hours) Day 1: Beach Clean Up 9 Divide students into teams of 2-3 9 Give one “recorder” in each group, an ICC card to record the garbage picked up by his/her team 9 Collect and dispose of trash Materials: aluminum can, tin can, piece of wood, piece of cloth, piece of paper, glass bottle, 6-pack ring, rubber bands Materials: gloves, trash bags, tools, ICC cards or copies, pencils
